ESSI Environmental Protection

Contingency Planning

Spills occur regardless of implemented preventative measures. Studies indicate that a significant number of spills at facilities are caused by operator error, such as failing to close valves or overfilling tanks during transfer operations. The importance of a spill varies in size, ranging from just a few hundred gallons to millions. Preparing a timely and coordinated response to such an emergency of undefined magnitude and unpredictability is an enormous challenge that requires significant planning and training.

Product Readiness

ESSI provides consultation services for clients to determine the necessary amount of product required and ideal storage location according to facility specifications. Upon notification, ESSI will re-stock products, in readiness for an emergency situation.

Personnel Training

In order to respond rapidly and successfully to a spill, personnel responsible for containing and cleaning the spill must be familiar with the material and knowledgeable with the processes required in the event of such an occurrence.

ESSI recognizes that proper training of facility personnel can reduce the occurrence of operator-related spills and reduce the severity of impacts when a spill does occur. ESSI designs custom-made plans and outlines the use of appropriate products and methodologies according to site specifications and spill genre. Training encourages up-to-date planning for the control of, and response to a spill, and also helps to sharpen operating and response skills.
